Please note This is a 2022 podcast episode – currently in process of reapplying for 2023 accreditation
In this podcast we discuss the Protection of Personal Information Act with legal expert and attorney at Michalsons, Lisa Emma-Iwuoha, who specialises in data protection.
There has been a lot of focus lately on the introduction of the POPI Act into law, and many (often anxiety provoking) messages about needing to be POPI Compliant. In this episode, Lisa helps us to understand the basics principles of POPI and POPI compliance, with the take-home message that much of what we are already doing as Psychologist’s has prepared us to be POPI compliant.
Lisa takes us through some practical examples of the reasonable measures psychologists should have in place to protect the personal information of their clients. She discusses how to act applies to web-based software, online therapy and digital and cloud storage and discusses the practical, reasonable and sufficient safety measures that can be considered.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, concerned or clueless about the introduction of this act – this episode is for you. Lisa has a wonderful way of explaining the relevant elements of POPI, and putting into perspective its implications, which can assist in putting you at ease.
