In today’s episode, we talk with Kathy Steele, co-author of Treating trauma-related dissociation: A practical, integrative approach.
Part of this discussion is spent conceptualizing the term ‘dissociation’ and differentiating this from other experiences of not feeling present. Kathy offers understanding on how dissociation presents, how to assess for it, how this is experienced by our clients and what therapeutic stance is most helpful. She links this back to attachment theory research and discusses various clinical examples of working with clients who experience trauma-related dissociation.
