In this episode, we talk with Prof. Graham Music, who was the Associate Clinical Director in the Tavistock’s Child and Family Department until recently, about his recent publication Respark: Igniting hope and joy after trauma and depression. We explore various aspects of working with emotionally neglected or traumatized clients. We talk about his concepts of unsparked/missparked states, and how this influences danger signalling at a cellular level and prediction errors that inform client’s experiences. Prof Music also outlines the critical first steps in treatment, that include experiences of “safening” and “safeness” before being able to engage with trauma treatment.
